    • JOTAK(carving) Technique
On the wooden canvas, the artist repeats the work of covering it with colors and drying them, to complete the multiple over 40 layers.
The artist then predicts the color on the area to be carved, then color it again after carving.
The layers of color that have been dried and colored are hard as the stone; the layers then are carved to the wanted depth of the color with a chisel.
The chisel does what a brush usually does in normal drawing.
JOTAK(carving, 彫剢) was named so in the Chinese character, to express the meaning of carving out the colors in the precise way.
